The Selling of Star Wars

Above is the first page of an article titled The Selling of Star Wars from the late 70's.  It's about the unprecedented merchandising that took place for that movie.  I love Star Wars and I love Star Wars crap.  I love toy and statues and posters and comic books.  Sometimes, though, I feel like we've become so caught up in the stuff, and the franchise, and the fandom, that we forget to just sit back and enjoy the movie.  I also feel like maybe good movies that don't sell toys do't get a fair break.  I fucking love the movie Rocky.  I really doubt Rocky would get made i this day and age.  As much as I am relishing the rise of comic book geek culture today, in some was I also feel like it has ruined some other aspects of pop culture that I love.
