Spud's duds

Spuds Mackenzie was made famous as a spokesdog for Budweiser in 1987.  Spuds was a marketing extravaganza,  and was soon on posters, t-shirts, and bandanas.  Spuds even had his own bit of celebrity controversy when it came out that he was a she.  The dog that portrayed Spuds was a female.  This didn't really put a dent in Spud's popularity though.  The controversy that brought an end to Spud's marketing campaign was the accusation that he/she was being used to market beer to children.  Spuds was retired in 1989, at the height of his/her game.    Spuds continued to be highly popular, enough so that the dog appeared in People's best dressed list in 1990.
