Dick Cavett Helps Sell the Devil

Proving the power of television in the late 20th century, William Peter Blatty's new novel wasn't selling well at all until the author took advantage of a last minute cancellation on the Dick Cavett Show to fill in and pitch his book to the tv audience. As a result The Exorcist became a big hit, and a movie was made.
